The murder of Katie DeWitt James remains unsolved. What is known is that she was found dead at this location on 31st August 1905, 5 weeks after she disappeared. She had been shot in the head, and her skull lay several feet from the rest of her remains. There are suspects and suspicions, but nobody was ever tried for this awful crime.

Therefore, it might come as little surprise that the area is reputed to be haunted. Witnesses have sighted flickering lights in the area. Some will state that this could be purley natural... others believe otherwise.
